Myself and Paul were delighted to be involved with this initiative as the well-being of young people is an issue that’s close to our hearts with our five kids campuses all over the world. It was an incredible honour to be invited by both, Prince Willian and Prince Harry to Buckingham Palace for this launch.
After the loss of our parents we were always determined to turn our tragic experience into one of positivity. After everything we’ve been through and worked for, it was amazing to not only just have our efforts recognised by the Royal Family, but also to stand as an example to the younger generation of The Queen’s Young Leaders and to be able to assist them on their missions, which weren’t too different from our own.

Prince William and Harry were really inspiring and it was great to speak with them about Gandys and our ongoing projects.
They empathised with our loss and could relate to what we’d been through, both two brothers losing their mother at a very young age. Prince William said that although he lost his mother at 15, he felt that there was always a silver lining and in his case, this was having his own family now. He also expressed to us that people who lose parents at a young age often have to dust themselves off and carry on, urging us to continue with our good work and that really resonated with us. The only thing we didn’t have in.
Common though was myself and Paul were wearing flip flops of course, while Prince William and Harry were dressed well, like royalty. They really enjoyed the fact we showed up in our attire and they took a pair of their own for their future adventures which was really cool. It was great to be recognised for everything myself and Paul have achieved, it just keeps us motivated to keep on building our dreams by building kids campuses one flip flop and backpack at a time.
