Making a world of difference

These are the places where The Gandys Movement is currently working with charities and educational experts to help the children who really need it. And we have big plans to help in plenty more in the future.

With your help, Gandys is making a real difference to children who are being denied an education simply because of where they were born. They are victims of drugs and gang culture, child trafficking or simply a level of poverty so severe that many can only live by scavenging garbage dumps.

2014

Sri Lanka

Our first project was built where it all began. Sri Lanka is the country where Gandys founders and brothers Rob and Paul lost their parents in the devastating 2004 tsunami. We collaborated with Freedom for Children Sri Lanka to build a school and computer lab that provides schooling and extracurricular activities to disadvantaged children around the Gonapola area.

2017

Malawi

Our Malawi project opened in partnership with African Vision Malawi, whose project provides an entire community with care, education, nutrition and apprenticeships. In Malawi, only 40% of primary aged children attend school. The pupil teacher ratio is 62:1, and only 25% attend secondary school. In an area struggling to find funding for a pre-school, Gandys stepped in to provide this much needed and valued facility as well as contributing to the running costs of their food programme.

2019

Nepal

Godawari is a remote area of Nepal badly affected by the Gorkha earthquake in 2015 and where child trafficking is also a huge problem. Gandys teamed up with Chora Chori Nepal and restored a high school that had been severely damaged. We now financially support the Chora Chori Nepal mission to rescue trafficked children as young as 9 and provide accommodation, therapy and repatriation. The charity also works to eliminate circumstances that mean families unwittingly sell their children to traffickers.

2020

Rio, Brazil

The Gandys project in Rio included building a school to support vulnerable children and help to break the cycle of involvement in drugs and gangs. We financially support Project Favela, the passionate and committed charity that gives children the skills and support they need to build a better future.

2021

Mongolia

In the poverty-stricken Ulaanchuluut landfills area, families scavenge for rubbish for money to buy food. We work with the Veloo Foundation – a charity helping orphans and disadvantaged children – and provide funds for their community library for local children and their families. The library provides shelter from the -50 degree winter temperatures, as well as a place to learn.

2023

Bahia, Brazil

Gandys teamed up with Casa Amarela SCC to fund the running of their new school. Based near Porto Seguro, many of the children attending the school are from indigenous communities and there is a lot of drug trafficking, gangs and crime as well as extreme poverty. The school gives the children a safe space to spend their days learning the skills to build a better future.

2024

Guatemala

Gandys in Guatemala gives children from deprived rural areas the chance to further their education. Casa Guatemala provides pre-school to primary education for around 200 children in a remote jungle area. Gandys has funded the building of an additional dormitory for children facing poverty, abandonment or abuse.

2024

Bali

Working with Bali Children's Project, we have renovated three buildings at a school for early stage learning in Nyalian, a small village 20km from Ubud. In Bali, there is little government funding available for free, high-quality kindergartens so the existing preschool was made up of three plywood shacks with leaking roofs, mouldy walls and woodworm-infested furniture.

The new buildings provide a safe space for the community children to enjoy and the new equipment improves the quality of learning, setting the children up for a brighter future.

2024

Ghana

Chronic hunger is a devastating obstacle to learning, yet many children arrive at school with empty stomachs, which impairs learning and development. We've teamed up with Future Stars School in Buduburam, a refugee camp that is home to thousands of people who fled from Liberia during the civil wars. Many of the children are orphaned and live in extreme poverty, so we are providing a feeding programme for students aged 4-14, giving them the essential nutrients needed to support their learning, development and growth.

The Gandys Story

Turning Tragedy into Triumph

In 2004, the world’s most deadly tsunami took the lives and homes of hundreds of thousands of people. When disaster struck we were teenagers, travelling with our family in Sri Lanka. We survived by trekking 200km across the decimated country, unaware that we were now orphans. Our experiences and the people we met were the inspiration behind the Gandys.

This is our story.

Every purchase you make helps us to change lives. Thank you.

‘Rob and Paul’s story was very moving and I was humbled by their ability to turn a personal tragedy into something so positive.’
