CHANGE THROUGH EDUCATION

Our purpose

Gandys believe every child deserves a chance to change the world. Our aim is to ensure that children and youth, particularly those in underserved communities, have access to a quality education, which we believe is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and achieving long-term, sustainable development.

Our mission is to empower children by supporting educational initiatives that offer access to essential learning resources, safe and supportive environments, and opportunities for both personal and academic development – even taking that first step into a job.

WORLDWIDE PROJECT FUNDING

Your impact

Future Stars School

Ghana

Future Stars School in Buduburam is a refugee camp, home to thousands of people who fled Liberia during the civil wars. Many of the children are orphaned and live in extreme poverty, a devastating obstacle to learning. Funding from our Foundation provides a feeding programme for 150 students aged 4-14, giving them the essential nutrients needed to support their learning, development and growth.

Casa Guatemala

Guatemala

Casa Guatemala provides quality education, healthy meals and primary medical care in a loving and safe environment to over 200 vulnerable children from 30 different rural Mayan villages in the Departments of Izabal and Alta Verapaz of Guatemala. Casa Guatemala also runs Hotel Backpackers as a social enterprise where the majority of the staff have all grown up in Casa Guatemala. The profits from the business go directly to support Casa Guatemala.

Bali Children's Project

Bali

In Bali, there is little government funding available for free, high-quality kindergartens and conditions can be poor with leaking roofs, mouldy walls and woodworm-infested furniture. Working with Bali Children's Project, we renovated three buildings at a school for early stage learning in Nyalian, a small village 20km from Ubud, providing a safe space and new equipment to improve the quality of learning. Around 80 children a year now attend the school.

Projeto Povoada

Rio, Brazil

Projeto Povoada is a Rio-based charity transforming the lives of vulnerable children by equipping them with the tools, confidence, and community support to build brighter futures - free from the grip of drugs and gang violence. Through education, mentorship, and care, the project empowers young people to rewrite their stories and reclaim their potential.

CHOOSING OUR COLLABORATORS

How it works

At Gandys International we talk frequently and directly with the charities we work with. We have a memorandum of understanding in place – an agreement between both parties outlining shared intentions and key terms of cooperation.

It is important we understand the needs of the charity and how these feed through into positive outcomes. How we support can vary between the charities and the children and community that they are supporting. It could be in any one or more of the following ways:

01

Food for thought

In Ghana, over 60% of adolescents came from food-insecure households*, which links strongly to lower math grades, reduced school attendance and diminished aspiration.

Since 2024 Gandys has been partnering Future Stars Ghana for their nutrition programme; year-round food relief to nourish their 150 - helping improve health, behaviour and academic performance, whilst reducing inequality and supporting families.

Safe to learn

Children born in Guatemala today will reach only 46% of their productive potential* due to poor education and health outcomes. Our partner Casa Guatemala provides quality education, healthy meals and primary
medical care in a loving and safe environment to over 200 vulnerable children from 30 different rural Mayan villages.

In 2023 Gandys built a dormitory (from sustainable bamboo) to provide safe, stable housing for up to 300 vulnerable children, enabling them attend school and develop in a nurturing environment that breaks the cycle of poverty and isolation.

Books beyond barriers

60% of public schools in rural Bali* lack adequate library facilities, and yet they are proven to increase reading scores by up to 20%. That aside, reading helps to develop emotional resilience, critical thinking and community engagement. Bali Children’s Project are on a mission to change that.

2026 sees Gandys follow up on our refurbishment of the Nyalian Kindergarten library in 2024 with the funding of the full building refurbishment and equipping of Pengotan Primary School library. More than 500 colourful books will be stocked replacing many books that have been around since the 80’s!

04

Conflict to classroom

In Kenya’s Kakuma Refugee Camp, over 200,000 displaced people, many without access to formal education, seek safety and opportunity.

Founded by former child soldier Emmanuel Jal, GUA Africa’s Gatwitch Hub provides mentoring, coaching and vocational training to help youth rebuild their lives. Gandys funds 25 teachers, essential services and equipment to keep this vital community space running.

05

Favela Futures

Brazil’s favelas are among the world’s poorest urban areas, with over 11 million people in extreme poverty. Over half are unemployed, and many children are forced into labour instead of attending school.

Projeto Povoada offers free education and art programs to support vulnerable youth. Gandys’ funding helps enhance the learning environment at Projeto Povoada, supporting classroom resources, teacher training, food relief and infrastructure maintenance, facilitating safe community spaces that make education more accessible and empowering for the children.
