Celebrating Global Unity: The Gandys Children's Olympics
The world has been captivated by the Olympic Games this week, so we decided to celebrate by hosting our very own Gandys Sports Day.
Bringing together the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and cultural celebration, each of our nine global education projects - spanning Nepal, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Guatemala, Malawi, Ghana, Mongolia, and Indonesia - celebrated their own Olympic Games.
Each project brought its own unique cultural flair - from the bustling energy of Bahia’s football tournament the serene archery competitions in Mongolia, the children showcased their traditional sports with pride and enthusiasm. In Guatemala, the kids raced in relay races, while in Ghana, they engaged in high energy sack races. Each location celebrated in its own special way, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and unique sporting traditions of their regions.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the Olympics were a feast for the senses. In Guatemala, children enjoyed specially baked cakes, while in Ghana, they savoured sweet treats like lollipops and fizzy drinks!
Roma Bhandaree, Executive Director of ChoraChori, our Nepal partner states:
"We had lots of fun organizing the event! The children took part in a three-legged race, a volleyball match, a tug of war, a relay race, and a biscuit race for the younger kids! Overall, the children had a great time, especially when it came to the prize ceremony!"
As we look back on this week’s festivities, we are reminded of the boundless energy, joy, and potential that lie within every child. We remain dedicated to empowering these young athletes and thanks to your support, we can ensure that they have the support and opportunities they need to shine.
