Celebrating a new member of the Gandys Family

We’re thrilled to announce that our project in Guatemala is now complete! Thanks to you, we were able to fund a new dormitory at the NGO, Casa Guatemala.

Located along the Rio Dulce river, Casa Guatemala welcomes up to 300 children a year. Many of them come from the local Mayan villages and live in extreme poverty with no other access to education. The new dormitory means that more students can stay at the school and receive an education, saving them from the treacherous commute along the river.

This Gandys Children’s Day we bring all seven schools together to celebrate the latest member of the Gandys family!

Malawi

(African Vision Malawi)

Our preschool celebrated Children’s Day with a meal of rice and beans, plus dancing and drawing! They were gifted a care package of rice, beans, sugar, salt and cooking oil, which helps to alleviate the widespread problems of impaired growth and development from starvation and poor nutrition. The caregivers also received this, along with a traditional african wrap dress to say thank you for their hard work!

Nepal

(Chora Chori Nepal)

To make the Gandys Day celebration a truly heartwarming community affair, the team invited a neighbouring NGO that houses elderly women and children. The day was filled with joy, thanks to balloon games, dances and traditional songs for all age groups, and of course the tasty addition of delicious Nepalese food.

Mongolia

(Veloo Foundation)

The children at our community library kicked off celebrations with a mesmerising traditional dance, followed by games and traditions centred around the Mongolian nomadic lifestyle. From expressive, colourful drawings to a traditional calligraphy class, the children used creativity to celebrate their unique culture.

The children in Rio celebrated Gandys Children’s Day in true carnival style, and even designed beautiful masks for use at the actual Carnival in February. They played games, enjoyed an amazing performance from a local dancer and ended with a delicious banquet, including cake for all!

Get involved and share the love

The theme of Gandys Children’s Day was ‘What Makes You Unique?’ and to celebrate, the children sent us incredible drawings of their homes, friends and things that make them special. We would love to send the school children your drawings! Why not encourage your kids to create their own unique drawing?

Simply email a photo to hello@gandyslondon.com to get involved.
